Mohammed Bin Salman Nonprofit City Celebrates LEED Gold Certification for Misk Schools

Misk Schools, a subsidiary of Mohammed Bin Salman “Misk Foundation,” has been awarded the Gold-level Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification for its successful compliance with globally recognized green building standards and industry-leading sustainability practices.

Located in Mohammed Bin Salman Nonprofit City "Misk City," the Kingdom's next-generation hub of educational excellence has demonstrated great success in implementing principles of green and healthy buildings, utilizing progressive design strategies such as natural ventilation and lighting across the design and construction of its world-class campus. The LEED Gold Certificate level is a testament to Misk Schools' success in utilizing a sustainability approach from concept to delivery through its strategic location across diverse land uses and integrating it with Misk City's state-of-the-art transportation network while ensuring equitable resource usage in its day-to-day operations, emphasizing the role of high indoor air quality and ambiance for an incredible educational journey through prioritizing low-emitting materials, lighting, and acoustic performance through design and operation strategies.

Commending on yet another milestone in the sustainability journey, David Henry, CEO of Misk City, stated, "Living up to its billing as a trendsetter in learning and leadership, Misk Schools has truly walked the talk on the environmental front through the Gold LEED Certification that proves its commitment to providing its students and staff a green and resilient ecosystem to develop and thrive in. As the school enters its second year of operation in the Misk City we see the fruits of the early adoption back in 2020 during the design phase of this rating challenge”

Dr. Steffen Sommer, Director General of Misk Schools, added, “Achieving LEED Gold Certification is a proud moment for Misk Schools and is a testament to Misk City’s firm commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. This recognition reflects the city’s efforts in developing a community that not only supports academic excellence but also prioritizes sustainable practices.

Misk Schools’ Gold LEED Certification represents a key achievement in Misk City’s sustainability certification strategy, realizing its vision of becoming an outstanding destination for environmental stewardship and high-quality urban living through a blend of a pedestrian-friendly community, innovative designs, healthy living, and convenience into its blueprint. With an emphasis on smart technologies, energy, and water conservation, green spaces, and multimodal transportation, the city has its eyes set on environmental impact while laying down a marker in social and economic prosperity for community development.

LEED Certification is the second achievement for Misk Schools, as last year, the school successfully achieved the WELL Precertification at the Gold level from the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). This achievement confirms Misk City's commitment to delivering a healthy and inclusive city.
